The Invisible Surfers: Dogs Killa Cat

The Invisible Surfers - Dogs Killa Cat - Album cover ...CD Review by Commandante ...by Commandante

Poison Pussy - The opener is a rough guitar rampage instro. The middle part reminds me of the Galaxy Trio's, "In the Harem". But hey, this Invisible Surfers' original will make your (poison) pussy purr!

All Wrong - Nothing's wrong in this track! Nice guitar riffing, pounding bass and cool drums are the ingredients for this powerful instro.

Malaguena - This version of the Trashmen Opus Dopus is ... incredible. A monolithic bassline, pounding drums and an oriental sounding guitar are the fuel for the ultimate magic carpet ride. So light up your hash pipe and lift off!

It Won't Last Forever - Yep, nothing is forever. So you have 2 minutes and 48 seconds time to dance to this fast number. Speedy go!

Restlessness - Restlessness starts with big drum powwow and oriental flavoured guitar until it becomes a Link Wray sounding riffer. Cool.

Little Angel - This Little Angel is a two-face! Danger chords on the one hand and an awesome surf melody on the other will make you shiver and shake.

Godzilla Attacks - A heavyweight like Godzilla deserves a mighty song like this. The main melody rules and the rhythm section stomps real hard. So be well prepared when this Instro Monster attacks.

Rumble - The Invisible Surfers' tribute to Mr. Guitar. A damn dirty version of that all-time classic!

The Hunter - As fast as a Hunter can be! A very quick one that has all you can expect from a speedy instro song. Yeehaw!!

The Invisible Surfers are Alex Berekos on Guitar, Johnny Ted on Gretsch Electric Bass, Giorgos Fokas on Drums Machination - What kind of mean Machination is going on there? This song spreads the feeling of danger and mystery. A flittering guitar melody, a cool hookline in the refrain and a spooky introduction/middlepart take the listener into a world of crime and suspense.

Think Again - The adventure in crime is going on in this slower track. So better Think Again when you hear this dirty spy blues instrumental.

Top Quality - Top Quality stings like a bee! Great power riffs and a damn hard rhythm section are kicking ass. And there is no doubt that the guitar solo is the icing of the cake! Or better described in two words - Top Quality.

Trippin Out Of You - This is a typical Invisble Surfers' midtempo instro rocker with a Dick Dale like melody over a stompin' background track. Jamas!

Witch Like You - The last song on Dogs Killa Cat is a fast rock'n'roll number with fine unisolo guitar/bass playing and Mystery Train sounding drums. I would say, return to the first track and start again.

Some facts:
  • The Invisible Surfers are an instrumental three-piece combo from Greece.
  • The three boys play fast rocking instros in a remarkable style. Their sound reminds me of Huevos Rancheros, Link Wray and Thee Heatscores.
  • All originals on the CD are written by the guitar player, Alex Berekos.
  • In 2002 the band released Dogs Killa Cat. The CD contains 14 songs (12 originals and 2 cover versions) recorded and mixed directly to 2-track, 1/4" analogue tape recorder in three days.
  • Dogs Killa Cat has everything to make an instro nerd happy ... it is raw, it is authentic, it is cool! Go and get it!
