Lost Riders Reviewed by: Justin Hayes 7" of cool vinyl. Yes, VINYL. It's one of the things we Surf Rock Music old-timers love. Maybe it's the warmth of sound that does it for us. Maybe it's those cool grooves. Whatever the reason, two things are for certain: 1) It takes some great music to make vinyl live and breathe. 2) Dirty Fuse is the wind and fire that breathes life into this 7" vinyl record. Hailing from Athens, Greece, Dirty Fuse does their country's music scene proud. They prove that instrumental music is alive and well in all corners of the world. SIDE 1 : Lost Riders: Opens with the throaty, revved up sounds of some big, bad motorcycles at the starting line of a race track. Then it begins. Some hot double picking leaves those bikes in the dust. Lost Riders is an extremely cool instro/hot rod/cycle tune. It should easily be in the running for instrumental song of the year. Look Around: The bass gets your toes tapping, the drums give it a kick, and away we go. Man, these guys are tight. Be sure to listen to Look Around with some headphones on. Check out how spot-on everyone is. Dig those bass syncopations. At about the halfway point they have a kick-ass break with some wild drum and guitar action. It's outta sight. Great ending with great chord work. Each band member is an extension of the others. Tight, tight, tight and hotter than hell. Side 2 : Perfect Device: Opens with a Jimi Hendrix type of distortion then kicks into warp drive. I don't know what Dirty Fuse was taking that day, but I'd sure like to have some. I think I'll classify Perfect Device as a hyperspace tune. It would work well as a movie music track behind some starfighters dueling it out in space. Vu: Just the right amount of tremolo sets the stage for a mysterious and spooky journey toward the unknown. A magical and mystical tune, Vu fuels the imagination and makes you wonder what's out there, somewhere, beyond what we know. There is some great stuff embedded in those grooves. Lost Riders is a terrific album, filled with four terrific tunes. Dirty Fuse hit paydirt with this one. Great music, great musicians. What more could you ask for?
