I was fortunate enough to buy two Dual Showman Reverb TFL 5000D amps from a friend. One is a '69, the other a '70. The amps need some cleaning and polishing, but they work great and sure do sound nice...and LOUD! Great working reverb and vibrato on both.
The Tolex on the '70 is in primo condition, with very little scuffing and no tears or burn marks. The Tolex on the '69 is in fair, usable shape. The '69 definitely was a gigging amp. The labels, jacks, switches and knobs are all in exellent condition on both amps. Both of them have (what appears to be original) footswitches. Everything works the way it was intended.
At the same time that I bought the amps from my friend, I also purchased three matching Showman cabinets from him. The cabinets look similar to Dual Showman Reverb cabs, but aren't quite as large (approx. 39" high x 29" wide x 12" deep). Like the Dual Showman Reverb cabinets, the Fender logos are right-side-up and top-left when the cabs are standing on end, as opposed to right-side-up when the cabs are on their side. They all have Fender logos, with tails, and all of them do have drip rails. None of them have the JBL logo at the bottom. I haven't taken the backs off, as of yet, so I'm not sure what kind of speakers are in them. I'll try to get some photos of them up here in the near future. If you have any thoughts about what kind of cabs they might be, please drop me a line: duke@surfrockmusic.com. Thanks!
Oops... I kinda chopped the logo a bit in this photo. Just wanted to show that the logo and grill cloth are in good shape on the '70. The logo on the '69 is in good shape, too, but that black grill cloth has got to go. Interestingly, one of the cabinets has black grill cloth, too. Maybe it was a mate to the '69 amp. Fortunately, I have understanding neighbors. They haven't complained about me rattling their windows...yet! |
