The Vara-tones: High-Energy Instrumental Surf Band

The Vara-tones: High-Energy Instrumental Surf Band ...by The Vara-tones

The Vara-tones are a high-energy instrumental surf band in the best traditions of The Ventures, Dick Dale and The Surfaris.
    Rich Campbell:  Drums

    Gary Sunda:  Bass and Sax

    Bill Epps:  Lead Guitar

    Terry Zimmerman:  Bass
The Vara-tones originated in 1961, inspired by the instrumentals of groups like The Fireballs, The Ventures, and Duane Eddy. After putting in about a year of garage time, the group gigged around Southern California during the height of the surfing craze ('63 - '65) and released a single, 'Repeto' on the Kay label in 1964. The group disbanded in 1966. In 1994, due to the resurgence of surf music (the real kind - all instrumental) and the persistence of Rich, their drummer, the original members were tracked down and ended up having a reunion - jamming together just for fun. This ultimately resulted in their first album entitled "Jetty Subject To High Surf" which is available now!

The V-People are proud to announce that our brand new album "Headin' Out" is complete. We have been working on this thing for a long time. We want to thank all of the V-friends who encouraged us to do another album!
