Emmy has been gone. Real gone, baby. As in "out of the area physically as well as mentally, buds." What better way to come back home to surf rock than to find two new CDs to review!

The first to hit my desk blew the dust bunnies right off my laptop. The Razorblades did it right with The Dark Side of the Beach. This is seriously delicious ear candy.

Talk about some smokin' tunes, The Razorblades pegged my heat-meter on sizzle. These guys are hot, hot, hot. Here are the four Razorblade musician dudes who made my nipples hard:

There are nineteen, count 'em, nineteen tracks on The Dark Side of the Beach. Each one battered my woofers and tweeters like a giant tsunami. I can't wait to take this baby with me the next time I go for a cruise in the Stingray. Grrrreat road trip music.

Surf Like an Egyptian is very surfy and has a feel that is very Egyptiany. Yes, that's a word. Or not. Come on now, don't give Emmy a pain in the ass quibbling over words. The bottom line is that Ali Baba and King Tut would give two thumbs up on Surf Like an Egyptian. Egyptiany surf rock at its best.

The Wake Up Call is a high octane, double picked, balls-to-the-wall mass of energy. This mother will press you back in your seat and haul your balls like a bat out of Hell. Magnitude off the Richter Scale.

Girl In The Front Row made me question my sexuality. Why? Well, if I was anywhere that had rows of seats, and I spotted a chick who was as hot, sexy, mysterious and seductive as Girl In The Front Row, I'd turn gay ... at least for the night.

Headshaker blows the side covers off of any crotch rocket road jockey's scootercycle. This is gear jammin', double picked surf 'n' shred a la Dick Dale. Drink lotsa water, 'cause it'll make you sweat.

Love Hurts, But You Can Dance Your Pain Away is a happy song. This light, bouncy, surfy and upbeat tune really does make you want to get out of your chair and dance the night away. If Love Hurts, But You Can Dance Your Pain Away doesn't put a big smile on your face, then call the morgue, Honey, because you ain't alive.

Rock'n Roll Zombie is an incredibly wild surf tune that conjures up the quintessential surf sound ... and then some. Great picking and fabulous drumming complement a very hot composition. Rock'n Roll Zombie is action packed, hard driving surf music. Hey, Razor Dudes, give us more. Sock it to me, sock it to me.

Beat Girl Stomp is a definite cross-over. If the country crowd gets their paws on this song we'll see them unload Achy Breaky Heart in favor of Beat Girl Stomp. If that isn't weirdly cool enough for you, there's some far out psychedelia mixed into the brew. Before Beat Girl Stomp had ended, I was lusting for surfboards, saddles and doobies. Beat Girl Stomp is far freakin' out.

Sometimes The World Is A Lonely Place is a beautiful song that uses a lot of slow, sexy arpeggios to set a let's-play-some-suck-face type of mood. This dreamy tune reminds me of some hot, dirty dancing I did years ago. It's the kind of music that gets guys and girls to ride each others' legs on the dance floor. Great job, Razor Dudes. I'm hot and ready to ride the wild leg.

Ah, but wait! There's more! (Do I watch too many TV infomercials?) The Dark Side of the Beach has eleven more sonic booms waiting for you. There are some neat vocal treats in between the tracks, too. Every single tune on The Dark Side of the Beach is hot enough to make your heat-meter point straight up.

The Dark Side of the Beach rocks with some new ideas, but it also offers some fabulous traditional tracks. The guitar playing is absolutely, positively top notch and the drumming is rock steady, strong and very, very skilled. The Dark Side of the Beach is a winner on all counts.
