I love this album a lot. I mean a WHOLE lot. I was in my teens back in the early '60s. That old surf and rock 'n' roll was, and still is, my thing. The Dead Rocks have captured the sound — and I love it — and I did the Twist back in the early '60s — and I could Twist all night to The Dead Rocks' Tiki Twist.

The Dead Rocks are:
Johnny Crash: guitars
Billie The Tiki: bass
Marky Wildstone: drums

Tiki Twist is an absolutely fabulous CD and brings you eleven outstanding tracks of instro surf and rock 'n' roll played by three outstanding musicians. The first five tracks are studio cuts. The second five tracks are their live counterparts. The last track is The Dead Rocks' monolithic rendition of The House of the Rising Sun and it's a unique, imaginative one.

Now I know why The Dead Rocks are so well thought of in Brazil — they truly are fantastic. Let's get ready to surf 'n' roll...

Tiki Twist - Super cool rock 'n' roll tune, straight out of the '60s. Outstanding guitar playing. Neat whammies and Dick Dale style glissandos, with just the right touch of fuzz. Excellent bass lines, especially when trading 'twos' with the guitar. I dig the ultra cool drumming.

El Bongo - Lively, bouncy and very '60s. El Bongo ia a happy and upbeat tune. Beach party all the way. Marky Wildstone's drumming really makes El Bongo jump. Fun tune.

Center of the Universe - A cool, surfy, outer space tune. Tasty whammies, powerful double picking, and roaring glissandos kick this puppy into orbit. Johnny Crash has the neatest sounding glissandos I've heard in many moons. Love the bass lines and drumming. Hang ten then hit those retro rockets on this one.

L'Espion Invisible en Vacances - It just keeps getting better and better. L'Espion Invisible en Vacances begins with a riff that is reminicent of the riff from Pipeline, then it explodes into a surf masterpiece. Johnny Crash is a double picking, glissando roaring, whammy bending magician. L'Espion Invisible en Vacances stacks up with Pipeline, Penetration, and other great surf tunes from the past.

Kalamanawa - Billie The Tiki opens this track with a cool bass riff. Then Marky Wildstone enters with some very hypnotic drumming and Johnny Crash lets loose with his guitar magic. Off they go into a blissful world of sand, sea, tiki gods, space, and the universe. Kalamanawa is a beautiful, hypnotic song.

Tracks 6 - 10 - These are tracks 1 - 5 performed live. They hold true to their studio versions and demonstrate that The Dead Rocks don't need to rely on studio wizardry in order to sound good.

The House of the Rising Sun - Very unique and interesting take on this timeless classic. The best way to descibe The Dead Rocks version of The House of the Rising Sun is that it reminds me of the legendary rock 'n' roll drummer Sandy Nelson's excellent piece The Birth Of The Beat. It's a natural progression of things, the birth and the evolution. In this case, the birth and the evolution of The House of the Rising Sun. Lean back, relax, and let it take you on a journey to the center of your mind.

I had a great time reviewing Tiki Twist. Old surf and rock 'n' roll hold a big spot in my heart and the The Dead Rocks really made my day with their terrific compositions and stellar playing. I highly recommend Tiki Twist. It's a very cool blast from the past.
