In keeping with what I find to be a great Brazilian tradition, The Dead Rocks are excellent musicians packing a potent collection of music. They are also a unique band.

The Dead Rocks are:
Johnny Crash: guitars
Frank Funk: bass and samplers
Marky Wildstone: drums

The thing that makes them unique is they are not afraid to explore the edges of instrumental surf music. Call it 4th wave or new wave, The Dead Rocks' willingness to push the surf music boundaries makes International Brazilian Surfs a cool listening experience.

International Brazilian Surfs contains 19 tracks comprising more than 50 minutes of music. I thoroughly enjoyed each one. Here are my thoughts on a few of them, chosen at random.

Themme For Rock is Dead - High-energy surf. It has the intensity you might find in a Quentin Tarantino film. A double picker's delight.

Beach's Bitch - I like this one a lot. Imagine Ennio Morricone writing a surf tune. Very cool track.

Unhead Rider - High-energy, high-powered surf. It has two of my favorite things — hot double picked verses and shimmering tremolo choruses.

Surfing in the Kane - This is a neat surf/space/sci-fi tune that would go well in a sci-fi movie. The tremolo and drumming add a delicious aural flavor to the mix. The otherworldly sounds are cool. Space aficionados will dig this one.

El Condor Pasa - This is a freakin' hot track. The Dead Rocks' surf arrangement bring this beautiful song to a new level. These guys can play.

Billie Buggy - Wild, kick-ass surf/hot rod tune. This one will keep you awake on those long night drives. If it doesn't get your body moving, you'd better check your pulse.

Speaker Stone is 7:45 of instrumental acid rock. I'll be damned if this doesn't take me back to the '60s. Trippy, very trippy.
