A Maldição do Surf Sumério Reviewed by: Justin Hayes I've really enjoyed cheking out the Brazilian bands. They are playing some of the neatest music that today's scene has to offer. Os Pazuzus is no exception. These guys can play and their music is wild and fun. Os Pazuzus are: Mutiro: reverb guitar Jones: punk guitar Delphyus 7J: bass Rei das Rimas: drums A Maldição do Surf Sumério is a seven song CD, filled with instro and semi-vocal tunes. It's fast and furious, with no B-side fillers. Mystery and mayhem are the order of the day on A Maldição do Surf Sumério and Os Pazuzus delivers them with power and panache. They don't mess around. Os Pazuzus delivers a knockout punch right from the get-go. A Maldição do Surf Sumério is cool, hot, and all points in between. A Maldição do Surf Sumério - This is a cool way to open a CD. High-energy, hi-speed surf 'n' punk. It sounds like the end of the world and the evil man, screaming girl, maniacal laugh, air raid sirens, and bombs set the stage. Tropical - A man is saying that the Insular Government Conservatory of Music's research is keeping an island free of tropical diseases. Well, we all have our opinions. Personally, I think Os Pazuzus' La Speranza Del Domani is what's keeping the diseases, and bugs that carry diseases, away. La Speranza Del Domani is powerful medicine. Thrash and bash with a menacing voice would keep bugs, diseases, and monsters away. Cool, powerful tune. La Diabolica - Opens with a kick-ass glissando and quickly develops into a neat spy number. A chick and a guy are exchanging information. Something sinister must have happened in the end because she sounds very upset. Cool stuff. Os Olhos Sangrentos da Mãe Madrid - I like this one a lot. Mucho double picking and a haunting melody line, with a touch of fuzz, makes this baby jump. Guitars, bass, drums = perfection. R.O.M.A.N.T.I.C.A. - The music is excellent and very reminiscent of rock 'n' roll from the 1960s. A man is talking. I don't speak the language so I'm not sure what he is saying, but it works. A Dança do Surfista Fantasma - This is an outstanding instro-surf number and really showcases Os Pazuzus' talent. Great guitar playing, great bass lines, and precision drumming make A Dança do Surfista Fantasma a top pick in any wave of surf music. There's A Pazuzu In My Garage - Opens with the old Dating Game music playing in the background while some men are talking. Then some eerie old sci-fi music cranks up and the whole thing turns into hot surf 'n' punk. High speed, high energy, and double picking...it's all there, and then some. The opening riff is killer. I got a big kick out of A Maldição do Surf Sumério. It's imaginative and creative - two excellent attributes. When you have a chance, give A Maldição do Surf Sumério a listen. It's sure to please.
